Surgery clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using the service eConsult or by using the online forms on this website.

Our practice provides the following services:

Asthma clinic

Our practice nurses offer appointments weekly for Asthma and COPD patients.

They will be able to offer spirometry to accurately measure lung capacity and advise on both inhaler medications and techniques for various inhalers. We encourage all asthma and COPD patients to have an annual review with one of our practice nurses.

Contraception and coils

We offer a range of contraceptive services including coil or implant fittings and removals.

Please book a telephone consultation with Dr Hunter in the first instance and then she will make the necessary arrangements.

Diabetic and heart disease clinics

These clinics are held regularly with one of our practice nurses.

Please book with reception.

Immunisations

We run a weekly nurse led baby clinic on Thursday between 9am and midday. Immunisations are available and advice and queries can be answered here.

It’s important that vaccines are given on time for the best protection, but if you or your child missed a vaccine, contact the surgery.

Minor surgery and joint injections

We do not currently offer a regular minor surgery clinic, but we are able to add procedures at the doctor’s discretion.

Joint injections are carried out by Dr Hutchings and Dr Hettiaratchi.

NHS health checks

This service is intended for people who do not come regularly to the doctor. The check is intended to identify people from the ages of 40-74 who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and/or high blood glucose and are therefore at risk of heart disease, a stroke or diabetes and who do not realise this. We will calculate your risk of a heart attack or stroke and advise you accordingly and give some lifestyle advice.

If you are on medication for any of the above your doctor will have already done this assessment for you and so you do not need a specific appointment to repeat these. If you have had a cholesterol check in the last three years you will not need to repeat these tests.

If you feel that a health check would be beneficial, please book in with one of the nursing team. We run specific health check clinics, and you will be booked into one of these.

Please note that patients below the age of 40 years and above the age of 74 years are not eligible for an NHS Health Check.

Phlebotomy

If you require a routine blood test, please book your blood test via www.fhft.nhs.uk/bloodtestbooking.

Warfarin and DMARD bloods are managed by our nursing team at the surgery, as well as bloods for the elderly and frail and our cancer therapy patients.

The clinician will tell you if your blood test requires fasting – if so, you should have nil by mouth for the proceeding 12 hours prior to the test. You may take small sips of water if required.

Travel vaccinations and non-NHS services

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need to complete a travel risk assessment form at least 6 weeks before you travel. Upon receipt of your form the nurse will review your requirements and you will be contacted by the surgery to book an appointment. Please note every member of the family will need to complete a travel risk assessment form and you will receive your own individual appointment.

If you have 4 weeks or less before you travel you will not be seen at the surgery, you will need to attend a private travel clinic for vaccinations.

The NHS will not pay for all of the services we provide, so patients may be required to pay for some of these services. Our fees are in line with BMA approved national guidelines.
