What is Enhanced Access?
Enhanced Access provides patients with additional appointments outside of normal opening hours. This NHS service is delivered by Maidenhead Primary Care Network (MPCN), allowing patients to access healthcare at more convenient times, including evenings and Saturdays.
Enhanced Access offers pre-bookable appointments with a range of healthcare
professionals, which may include:
• GP’s
• Practice Nurses
• Healthcare Assistants
Appointments are intended for routine, non-urgent care as well as on the day more
urgent appointments and are available in addition to appointments offered during your
registered practice’s normal opening hours.
How does my practice use Enhanced Access?
Your GP practice may offer some appointments through the Enhanced Access service
to increase appointment availability and improve access to care. Depending on your
healthcare needs, a member of our team may book you into an Enhanced Access
appointment if it is the most appropriate option. These appointments are offered at St
Mark’s Hospital.
When are appointments available?
Enhanced Access appointments are available:
• Weekday evenings (between 18:30-21:30)
• Saturdays (Between 09:00 – 17:00)
Availability may vary depending on the type of clinician or service required.
How do I book an appointment?
Enhanced Access appointments cannot usually be booked directly. If you require an
appointment, please contact your registered GP practice in the usual way. Our
reception team will assess the most appropriate appointment for your needs and,
where suitable, may offer you an Enhanced Access appointment.
What can Enhanced Access help with?
Enhanced Access appointments are suitable for many healthcare needs, including:
• GP consultations
• Follow-up appointments
• Blood Tests
• Long-term condition reviews
• Nursing services
If you require urgent medical attention, please contact NHS 111, or call 999 in a medical
emergency.
Enhanced Access is designed to complement the care provided by your GP practice,
offering greater flexibility and helping patients access routine healthcare at times that
better suit their needs.
